Free TV

Does anybody need/know someone who needs a TV? I recently replaced mine and would like to give the old guy a new home if possible - it's not great, but it's free if someone wants it. It's a 19" TV, GE, has a remote that works. Was the TV in the basement of our home and I took it when I moved out. I'd use it to replace the little TV in my room, only, I don't really watch TV in there so it's too big to bother with on my own.

Just drop me a line here or shoot me an e-mail if you're interested.

Update!

Due to unforeseen work circumstances, tonight no longer really works for me... also, my Saturday plan has asked to switch to Sunday, so I am wondering if anyone is down for Saturday instead? Daytime, night time, all good to me?

Also, [info]clumsy_me, that is the weekend that I'm away on vacation!

I'm having a hard time with something and I can't talk to anybody about it, especially not the one person with whom I can talk about anything. So I have been reading [info]myclevername's confession posts and Post Secret (and the lj responses) hoping to see something anonymous and reassuring but so far am not finding it.

I'm going back to my booze hoping I can fall asleep soon.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this: obesity can be contagious is completely ridunkulous? Seriously.

I'm feeling very surly lately and I'd like for it to stop.

I just posted a big rant about a coworker, privately. BIG FUCKING RANT.

However, I'm not sharing, and I'll simply state that - WORK IS FOR SUCKERS and I want a sugar daddy.

Music Meme.

My cousin asked me to give me a list of my all time favorite top five songs a while back, and I just plain couldn't do it. I narrowed things down to a list of 26 songs that I never get sick of listening to.

With [info]myclevername's new meme, I share this list with you:

1. Aretha Franklin - The House that Jack Built
You've gotta love Aretha. And while Rock Steady makes me groove too, this is absolutely my all time fav Aretha tune. I get a little more oomf in my step when this song comes on.

2. The Beach Boys - I'm Waiting For The Day
I know it wasn't all that long ago that I posted just to share this song, 'cause it's friggin' great. Determined is the mood I get in when I hear this song - around 2:30, you think the song's ending and then the drum comes in and says "but I'm not done yet!" - and that's the best part.

3. Blue Rodeo - Hasn't Hit Me Yet
Blue Rodeo is the sound of my family, late summer evening's spent on my aunt's deck after a day in the pool, patio lanterns ablaze and the air full of smoke. I first saw Blue Rodeo live a few years ago thinking that I wasn't that into them but they'd be fun anyway, and with each song they played I realized just how much I loved them. This was the coolest moment of the show, the whole crowd singing with barely the accompaniment of the band ... then singing along, "out in the middle of lake ontario" as we were right on Lake Ontario. That was my last night living in Toronto and it was a blast.

4. Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds (Live at Luther College) - #41
This is my all time favorite DMB song. Just loved it instantly, and this song reminds me of [info]clumsy_me from going to see DMB together at the Corel Centre in Kanata... standing in the lame-o audience and being asked to sit down and refusing during the half-hour jam session on this song with the band and bela fleck. I think it's the "I'm only this far and only tomorrow leads my way" line that kills me for this song.

5. David Bowie & Queen - Under Pressure
Love Bowie, love Queen, love this song. I belt it out in my car.

6. Etta James - This Bitter Earth
I've said it a thousand times before - if I could sing I'd want to sound like Etta. If I could only listen to Blue Gardenia again for the rest of my life, that wouldn't be so bad. She's fabulous, and catching her live last year was just amazing. Listen to Etta, get her "Gold" double-disc and just... listen to Etta.

7. The Human League - Don't You Want Me Baby
I love me some '80s tunes, and this is one of them. This song makes me think of having lunches at a restaurant in Kanata with a friend of mine I don't really speak to anymore, but I still like this song, 'cause even though I suppose things didn't end well I have to admit those were good times. This song always seemed to be on when we went out, and we both dug the '80s tunes, and this is also a great sing-along song.

8. Iron & Wine - Passing Afternoon
This guy just kills me. J'adore. If nostalgia were a song it would sound like this, it's beautiful and wonderful and sad but not depressing.

9. Janet Jackson - Miss You Much
Get up and dance around, sing along with the M-I-S-S You Much ... Rhythm Nation was so fantastic and I'm just waiting for that to show up on iTunes. Have it on cassette, but I no longer have *any way* to play cassettes! WTF!

10. k.d. lang - Hallelujah
Her voice is just phenomenal. This song is covered by everyone and their dog, but k.d. does it the best - yes, better than Jeff Buckley.

11. Kings of Convenience - Cayman Islands
This song is Toronto. I discovered Kings of Convenience while I was living there, and it rained frequently, and this is a rainy day song. This song is a book on the couch in my aunt's condo, overlooking Queen West. About halfway through the song is a moment with strings and it's perfect.
If only they could see, if only they had been here
They would understand, how someone could have chosen
To go the length I've gone, to spend just one day riding
Holding on to you, I never thought it would be this clear

12. Led Zeppelin - Since I've Been Loving You
This song is late July, summer heat. This is a song I listen to and just kind of space out..

13. Marvin Gaye - Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)
Not only is this song what "cool" sounds like, the lyrics are just .. awesome.

14. Metric - Poster of a Girl
I cannot wait to see Metric again for Bluesfest. They were one of my favorite performances from last year, and this song rules. I don't know what to say except every time it comes on I turn it way up.

15. Miles Davis - It Never Entered My Mind
Even more than the Kings of Convenience track, this is a song that instantly takes me back to Toronto. Not much out there is quite as relaxing as this song. There's something about this song that makes me pause and really listen.

16. Pearl Jam - Daughter (Live in Ottawa!)
Pearl Jam had to be the best show I've seen at the Corel Centre/Scotiabank Place. If you get a chance to catch these guys live, DO IT, because they are phenomenal. This has always been a favorite song of mine, ever since I started listening to Pearl Jam. Pretty sure VS. was the first album I had and this song was an immediate favorite - and I wanted to hear it live, and it was great.

17. Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes
I swear I adored this song long before I saw Say Anything. This song makes me feel good, and that's one of the best things about music.

18. Portishead - Glory Box (Live, Roseland NYC)
Portishead was just so fucking cool, and such distinct vocals. Some fantastic lyrics again... if I want to turn someone on to Portishead, this is where I'd start.

19. Radiohead - Thinking About You
This song is high school, but the good parts of high school. Driving in parents' cars for the first time, drinking in someone's basement, having sing alongs in the back yard. Walking around with nothing else to do but talk about how silly things are so important. This song is the things I miss about being a teenager, the way it takes me back.

20. Ray LaMontagne - Hold You In My Arms
The fabulous [info]bambiblue turned me onto this guy and this song last summer, and it was a pivotal time in my relationship and just was perfectly suited, so good timing and gorgeous song and this song makes me happy and breaks my heart all at the same time.

21. Rilo Kiley - The Good That Won't Come Out
When I heard this song the first time it was on CKCU and I remember thinking "this is like Tegan & Sarah, kind of... who IS this!" - and I found out that it was Rilo Kiley and looked into them and just fucking LOVE Rilo Kiley now. Hard to pick a Rilo Kiley song to put onto the list, but I figured my own intro would be the best one. The build up in this song is great.

22. Sarah McLachlan - Possession
Even before I really got into Sarah this was a song that I just loved. She's also someone that is definitely worth going to see live - I'd had tickets the last time she was in Ottawa, but then took a job in Toronto so I was going to have to miss her and was kind of bummed about that. So my aunt surprised me with *great* tickets to see her in Toronto - and if you got her cd that came with the DVD, that would be the show you're watching.

23. Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Well hey, more '80s. Classic, fun, this song makes me think of my soccer ladies.

24. Stevie Wonder - Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing
This song just feels good. Another good one to belt out.

25. The Tragically Hip - Long Time Running
I could've easily also put "Bobcaygeon" on this list, but tried to avoid multiple songs by one artist. It was a tough call. Love the Hip, love 'em live, love even the new stuff. This song reminds me of an old friend... and what better slow-dance song is there!

26. Van Morrison - I'll Be Your Lover Too
This is one of those songs that the moment I heard it for the first time I had to track it down. He's got so many brilliant songs, but there's just something about the simplicity here.

FIFA U-20 World Cup at Frank Clair Stadium

While I didn't get a chance to visit with a friend who was in town for the day this afternoon, I did have a great time this evening. Met up with [info]mathowny and her friend Steph at the Oak and then we were off to Frank Clair Stadium for the World Cup!

FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007

It's some quality soccer and some good good times. First match was Korea vs Panama, and it was pretty good. According to the stats it was pretty even, and I'd say that's fair, actually. Between games we wandered around the stadium a bit and I had a slice of pizza and a coke costing me almost as much as my damn ticket.

FIFA U-20 World Cup: Korea vs Panama, II

Even during that game the Argentinian fans were getting crazy fun, and the break between games it just built and built. Just in time for the game [info]clumsy_iz and [info]mr_rhodes joined us and we told them that all the crazy singing and drumming had been going on for about a half hour at that point. The fans were a lot of fun, it was a really great time, and I'm so glad that we went. I'll write more about it later, but suffice it to say that it was a great game and Argentina really has something to cheer about because they totally dominated the play.

FIFA U-20 World Cup: Argetnina vs Czech Republic, I

Hope things come together for tomorrow... :s For now, I'm totally physically exhausted so it's time to head to bed. If only I could get some of the Argentina cheering out of my head... !

Saturday night went with [info]mathowny, [info]fellthisgirl, and Nancy to City Hall for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals. What a crowd!

Go Sens Go - Festival Plaza, I

Go Sens Go - Sens Mile Celebration, VI

Went on down to the Sens Mile to party afterwards, there were so many people - including a few other friends of mine, Rob, Jay & Costa. Very cool!

Tonight, while it would be a good time to go out and spend time watching with people I'm kind of glad to be just relaxing. I've had plenty of deep breaths since turning down Nancy's offer to hook me up with a ticket for tonight... seriously...

In other Sens news, I saw Ray Emery on Sunday. He was at Canadian Tire.

Time to do dishes, make dinner, do more dishes after that, and spend the night on the couch watchin' the boys win game four.

Went to watch the game tonight at Scotiabank Place with [info]mathowny and [info]fellthisgirl... good times were had, but was a disappointing end to the evening with the loss.

Still, amusing:

Last week has been busy and the fun doesn't stop.

Sunday last was a friend's birthday, had a good time 'cause we hadn't seen each other really in ages. On Monday, did a little work around the apartment and had a friend over to watch a movie. Tuesday, drinks & catchin' up on a patio with a former colleague, it was nice. Wednesday, lots of laughs at Absolute Comedy thanks to [info]fellthisgirl. On Thursday I had dinner with my mom at Mamma Grazzi's.

Friday I left work early to go to Toronto for the weekend. Spent the Friday evening drinking wine and hanging out on my friend's balcony. On Saturday we were off to Casa Loma without realizing that it was Doors Open Toronto, so we just kind of wandered the gardens (too packed to go inside) and then went to Spadina House instead, less busy. After a quick bite at the Fox & Fiddle, we went back to her place to hang out a bit before visiting my cousin in High Park. Some drinks there, then drinks at Insomnia and it was a night.

Sunday morning I got up and had brunch with my aunts at Brassaii which was very enjoyable. Good food, excellent service, I would definitely go back - while I enjoyed the inside, it would be nice to sit out in the courtyard next time. We had thought of going to Mildred Pierce again before they closed, but I was definitely pleased with Brassaii instead.

Got lost in the east-end on my way home 'cause some dipshit wouldn't let me onto the DVP. Survived the drive though - was disappointed not to have a chance to catch Ashleigh, so hopefully next time.

All in all a good weekend, but I wish I'd had today to recover. Worked all day and I'm off to an evening meeting - I'll likely watch some of tonight's game in Kanata. On the agenda for tomorrow, I'm not yet sure...

Go Sens Go

Was disappointed that no one was available/no one wanted to come by to watch the game - I'm in a prime spot to hit the party post-game, so that was a big disappointment. Was in a funk all day, wasn't a good day to be alone, but what can ya do.

After the game I did hear from someone who had assumed that I would've had other plans for the game - I dunno why people always assume that I've got so much going on, I really don't. In future, people, please don't assume that I've got something going on - I always get that - oh, I would've called but I thought you were probably blah blah blah - just call me, find out. I like stuff, but I'm not often up to much of it, so yeah.

Anyway - we went to Elgin to check out the craziness that really wasn't all that crazy by the time I got there, but I'm glad we went anyway. We stopped at Pancho Villa and had margaritas and then went for a walk along Elgin to see what was going on - also ran into someone I hadn't seen in years, which was pretty cool. Hugs from old friends are nice.

Sens Mile, III

Overall it was mostly people wandering around cheering - but then randomly there were a couple of games of street hockey, and seeing that cheered me up. I remember playing hockey in parking lots with friends back in the day - friends who, one night when I wasn't up for it, played hockey in an empty parking lot with Redden. Seriously.

ATTENTION PLEASE!

Dear you,

I would like to hang my RASTERBATION! project that I did in the fall of 2005 on my wall. Possibly on my new green wall above my television where things are currently - very very naked. And green.

Raster Pic

This is two big pieces of mounting board (like, uh, bristol board but thicker) - it's fairly heavy, and unfortunately any time I tried to hang it previously, it failed.

Does anyone know how to hang something like this? In a way that won't wreck my wall if I should change my mind and hang a different piece above my television?

Help! Please!

Thanks in advance,
- [info]sa_sagesse

PS,

Though I've expressed concern over my wall, the issue is more the back of the board. This is a giant piece of mounting board that has nothing on the back with which to hang it. Therein lies the problem - if this was a heavy object with stuff on the back, I know how to deal with it. The question is, how do you put something on the object to hang it on the wall. I understand that this was not at all clear.

In the end, I've gone with 3M Command Strips, which so far seem to be holding just fine. I have the 3M hooks holding things elsewhere, heavier things, and so far all is well. The strips I have should hold a ten pound object, so I think the problem is solved.

Thanks for the tips folks, but I should've been more clear - the question was more about putting something on the back of the board than putting something in the wall.

An Open Letter

Dear Ladies,

Please stop wearing white bras under dark shirts. Spare us all at the camera flash from seeing the shape of your cup. Also, aren't we over the whole thong-hanging-out-of-the-back-of-your-low-rise-jeans thing? 'Cause really, I kinda thought we were. Please advise if I am mistaken.

Kind regards,

PostSecret.

I was reading Post Secret... 'cause I love it... and came across a secret about graduating from 8th grade.

It made me think that back then I remember having a feeling that so much of what was happening was so very important, and looking back I don't even really remember what those things were. I wonder if in another ten years I'll look back to this time in my life and think the same thing.
Deco - Tamara De Lempicka

Green!

Painting is finished, my apartment feels much much homeier now. LOVE having the walls painted, it makes such a huge difference. Will be taking some photos tonight and more tomorrow once the whole place is super clean so that I can show it off... 'cuase it's great. A few more things to hang on the walls, need to (eventually) get some more art (my tv wall kills me!) aaaaaaaaaand another rug or two.

It's nice, I'm liking it, sitting here tonight it really feels like home.

Enjoying the Sens game, the first period was tough to watch but the second was great. Let's hope the boys can keep it up for the third!! GO SENS GO!!

Fancy

Spent the day doing a lot of stuff around the apartment...

At Last

Have some pictures n' stuff up now, which makes such a huge difference. It's nice having things on the walls, feels much more like home. Still a ways to go, but it's a definite improvement. There are some other things I have planned to go up that aren't photos n' stuff, too....

I wanna hang a raster image, I wanna do a shadow box for some antique silver, I have some shelves to go up (little shelves, not big honkin' book shelves), aaaaaaand what else... a few other framed photos n' stuff. Somewhere I'd like to have, I dunno, some plants. Lil' ones.

Time to relax... picked up a few dvds, but I think I'm gonna watch Canada/US curling.

I am stiff, man, totally.

Last night was kind of whacky, the conversations I had, uuuuuugh.

Now I am up, sort of, and slowly moving. Was listening to some records, 'cause I hadn't done that in ages. Made my way through Cat Stevens Tea for the Tillerman and now have some weirdness in the background with The Peppers Pepper Box. Not so sure what I wanna listen to next... maybe some more Cat Stevens, may make my way to Queen 'cause I love them and haven't listened to them in quite some time either.

But for now ... cleaning. Must do laundry and other things, ugh. For that.. yes I go home to do my laundry 'cause I get to eat lots of food and don't have to do lots of cleaning (Oh, dishwasher, I miss you..) and I also don't have to pay to do the laundry. Hoozah!
